Background

Founded in 1999, the New York City-based OptionMetrics is the leading provider of options and futures data and analytics to some of the world’s most prominent financial market participants and prestigious research institutes.  The Company’s data sets are recognized by more than 350 global clients as the “gold standard” for peer-reviewed academic research.

Prior to being engaged as an advisor, M&A had maintained a relationship with the Company’s founder and CEO for more than a decade. Two years prior to being engaged by the Company, M&A advised one of OptionMetrics’ competitors on a sale to Cboe. Subsequently, the Company was approached by several strategic and financial suitors, interested in acquiring, investing or partnering with the Company.  As the interest in the Company grew, the owners engaged M&A to help them explore strategic alternatives.

M&A helped OptionMetrics’ owners conduct a disciplined process that led to discussions with more than a dozen potential partners. After working with the Company to conduct a thorough review of its alternatives, the Company decided the best path towards long-term success was a partnership with Leeds Equity.

In addition to financial factors, the OptionMetrics’ team took note of Leeds’ experience within capital markets technology, and their impressive track record helping firms in the information industry grow and prosper.

Marlin & Associates (“M&A”) initiated this transaction, managed the process, assisted in the creation of support materials, and helped manage a disciplined review and negotiation process that resulted in a successful outcome for all.  M&A was the exclusive strategic and financial advisor to OptionMetrics.
